A tongue-in-cheek version of Top Gun done at fighter jet speed has scooped a film award for a British accountant.

Mark Wong’s amateur take on the Tom Cruise classic triumphed in the Done In 60 Seconds category at the Jameson Empire film awards in central London. The 1986 original, which also starred Val Kilmer, cost around £15m – but numbers man Wong forked out a mere £500 on his version. Living out every man’s dream, Wong wrote, produced, directed and edited the movie – and also starred as Maverick, Cruise’s character.

The budding filmmaker has also made two other 60-second movies based on Speed and Pearl Harbour.

Iceman: You two really are cowboys.
Maverick: What’s your problem, Kazanski?
Iceman: You’re everyone’s problem. That’s because every time you go up in the air, you’re unsafe. I don’t like you because you’re dangerous.
Maverick: That’s right! Ice… man. I am dangerous.

Wolfman: [watching a video of planes being shot down] This gives me a hard on.
Hollywood: Don’t tease me.
