Archie Comics announced today that the timeless city of Riverdale is poised to welcome its first openly gay resident this September in “Veronica” #202 with the introduction of Kevin Keller, the latest addition to Archie’s increasingly diverse gang of friends.

To be honest, I’m not 10yrs old, I haven’t even thought about an Archie Comic for nearly two decades. I think it’s cool Archie and Jughead are finally out the closet and ready to care for each other properly. Kevin Keller may be the new gay character but we know there’s a whole lot of craving for cartoon penis going on in Riverdale. “The introduction of Kevin is just about keeping the world of Archie Comics current and inclusive. Archie’s hometown of Riverdale has always been a safe world for everyone. It just makes sense to have an openly gay character in Archie comic books,” said Archie Comics Co-CEO Jon Goldwater in an official press release. Hold up! How can a timeless universe where no one has aged for decades be current and inclusive? I hope Archie starts talking about his superhero black president soon. I’ve also heard through the grapevine that in issue #203 Kevin Keller tells Archie the harrowing tale of how he discovered his sexuality and eloped with a homeless drifter at the age of 13. In the meantime, Archie is in an interracial relationship: the current issues have him dating Valerie, the bassist from the girl group Josie and the Pussycats.
